A little bit about us

about erie metro fcu

Erie Metro Federal Credit Union was founded in 1976 by employees of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Lackawanna, NY

At the time, the credit union was known as the Steel 76 Federal Credit Union. In June 1984, Steel 76 FCU merged with Meyer Memorial Hospital FCU (now known as the Erie County Medical Center) where the name was changed to Erie Metro FCU. In 2005, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) approved Erie Metro’s request to convert to a community charter.  The charter allows for a broader membership. We now serve all persons within the communities of Buffalo, Lackawanna, Blasdell, Hamburg, and Lakeview, NY. If you live, work, worship, go to school or volunteer within these communities, you are eligible for membership.

Today Erie Metro has over 6400 members and assets in excess of $38 million. The National Credit Union Administration has rated Erie Metro as “Well Capitalized” for over 15 years straight. We attribute this to the support and confidence of our membership!
